Taking a deep breath to clear her mind Eden Kingsley brought herself back into the reality of the present. The best thing right now was that they were getting along for Bronte. She was keeping her promise to Abby and Julia, and to herself, to make sure Rafe got to see Bronte a lot more, no matter what Jake thought about anything.

Jake just had to try to understand how things had to be and accept Rafe as part of Bronte’s life. She just didn’t think he understood everything they had gone through to make Bronte possible, and then all the things they had to go through to just be able to get along after they broke up—and until recently, they were losing the battle to get along.

After it happened—the affair—and Rafe finally came home from New York, Rafe did everything to try to win Eden back. Rafe sent gifts, love notes, and apologized many times. But Eden was heartbroken, and she was still emotionally confused about their relationship and her feeling that she should be with a man. On top of all that, Eden was also still so very angry with Rafe, and she felt betrayed and humiliated.

In her effort to try to move on from Rafe and figure out what she wanted, she went on a date with one of the writers she had met through a screenwriters networking conference where she was looking for a job and trying to meet people in the industry. During the conference lunch, she was sitting alone at a table, and a woman sat next to her and smiled.

“Aren’t you Eden Kingsley?” she asked as she opened her boxed lunch.

“That’s right.” Eden smiled gearing up to network. “Do I know you?”

“Oh,” she laughed, “probably not. I’ve heard a lot about you from some people you worked with doing some freelance work. I’m Regan Chadwick,” she said and held out her hand.

Eden took her hand. “It’s nice to meet you, Regan,” she said, and they spent the rest of lunch talking about their work and their lives.

After the conference, Regan caught up with Eden again. “Hey, Eden,” she called, and Eden stopped and turned to her. “Hi,” Regan panted catching her breath. “Listen, I was wondering, since you’re single now, and so am I, maybe we could go out.”

“Oh,” said Eden in surprise. She hesitated, unsure if she wanted to start dating anyone let alone another woman after Rafe.

“It’s just a date.” Regan smiled encouragingly as she saw Eden’s hesitation. She had been very taken with Eden’s beauty, and after talking with her, she couldn’t stop thinking about her.

Eden looked at her anxiously and decided she seemed like a nice woman and maybe she would be the one who helped her get over Rafe. Maybe getting out there again would help her move on.

“Sure.” She smiled anxiously.

“Great! How about Friday, and I’ll pick you up.”

“That sounds fine.” Eden nodded, and they exchanged information.

They went out a couple of times and ended up sleeping together, but afterward, instead of feeling better, Eden seemed to feel worse.
